Electric Arc IEC 61482-2
Category: PPE f. spec. industriesMore than heat protective clothing.
PPE as here described does not provide protection against electricity, e.g. commotion, but against the influence of electric arcs. These occur by short circuit and are connected to a big amount of heat combined with liquid metal splashes and high pressure.
Therefore a clothing ensemble, that can be rapidely and easily donned and worn for the period of risk only, should be preferred from a suit that is worn over the whole shift. That is why ALWIT, supported by our customers, developed a type of switch–coat which shall only be worn during such works of potential risks, and therefore spare the electrician to work over the whole shift wearing e.g. a multilayer suit.
Another option is resulting from the onion shell principle. Besides the already described types of a multi-layered suit resp. switching coat, an optimal solution may be offered by a single or double layer suit in combination with a shirt or poloshirt. Together the clothing ensemble achieves a higher, if not the highest level of protection. If the risk assessment is covered by such solution, it would be certainly optimal because its excellent comfort, that allows the use over the whole shift.
